What’s Wrong With GM

So what is wrong with GM?  Let’s figure it out.  Let’s also figure out what is right with GM and make it a metaphore for America.

 First, some statistics.  According to the March 12th, 2007 issue of Newsweek, GM employs 122,000 employees in the U.S., a drop of 31% since the new millenium.  It has 80 factories in North America.  Total global vehicle sales are expected to be 8.53 million in 2007.

 In contrast, Toyota employs 34,675 workers in the U.S., a gain of 23% since the year 2000.  It has 13 North American factories and is expected to make 8.54 million vehicles globally in 2007, making it the world’s largest auto maker.
